Production

We've helped create jobs by establishing manufacturing and sourcing our coffee beans
in the same regions where we have an established Giving presence.

Local Production

In 2013, TOMS committed to producing one third of our Giving Shoes in the regions where we give them. Local production helps to build industry and create jobs and sustainable futures.

Since committing to local production, TOMS has:

  • Created over 700 jobs in regions where we give
  • Manufactured shoes locally in Ethiopia, India and Kenya.
  • Employed an equal ratio of male to female workers

Our Factories

We produce our Giving Shoes in Argentina, China, Ethiopia, Haiti, India and Kenya.

TOMS has always been committed to serving countries that have the greatest need, no matter the challenge. One of the greatest challenges we've faced in getting shoes to children in need is customs clearance - or the logistics of getting shoes from Point A to Point B.

In some of the countries where we've seen great difficulty, our TOMS Giving Supply Chain team has decided to help by not only providing shoes to children in need, but also by creating jobs and establishing a manufacturing facility in those countries.

Ethiopia is a location of great importance to TOMS, where we've had a manufacturing presence since 2009. In Ethiopia, we're not just manufacturing Giving Pairs, but we've also taken on small-scale production of boots for people affected by Podoconiosis. Our manufacturers in Ethiopia take great care to provide a range of services to employees producing TOMS Giving Shoes, including housing, transportation and meals.

Our manufacturing partner in Kenya is incredibly committed to the TOMS mission. Upon producing their 1 millionth pair of Giving Shoes, they celebrated by giving shoes to every employee in the factory. Our manufacturers have also partnered with us to help address jiggers, a parasitic sandflea that affects nearly 3 million people in Kenya. By producing a specific kind of shoe, we are able to address our Giving Partners' request, and improve treatment efforts for Kenyan children affected by jiggers. Kenya is also the first local manufacturing country where we will regionally export Giving Shoes to neighboring countries like Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa.

Argentina is where the TOMS story begins. It was both the first country where we gave shoes, and also started producing. After TOMS Founder Blake Mycoskie's trip to Argentina, a local family decided they wanted to help Blake and his mission. They opened the factory, which is still in operation today to help TOMS provide shoes to children in need in their own country. In Argentina, we produce and give colorful alparagtas - a nod to Argentina's tradition, culture and style of locally made shoes.

We have a team of over 70 people in China helping to oversee our China operations. How we source our coffee

How we source our coffee

Country: Rwanda | Region: Shyara Mountain
Coordinates: 1.7472° S, 29.4270° E

Meet Josephine, a no-nonsense mother of eight children who owns the family-operated farm where our Rwanda roast beans come from. As buyers of sustainably sourced coffee beans, it's important for us to get to know our farmers personally and learn their amazing stories. Josephine lost her husband in Rwanda's genocide, but harbored a fierce determination to make a better life for her family. As one of the few female farm owners, she's turned her operation into one of the best-performing farms in the region.
